Good morning. It is Sunday, April 9th. I'm Ali Valshi. Donald Trump's arraignment last Tuesday was a singular moment in American history. Never before has a current or former American president been charged in connection to a crime, but the Manhattan District Attorney's criminal charges against Trump barely scratched the surface

of the legal troubles that the former president is currently facing.

It's not even the only pending case involving Trump in the state of New York.

At some point this coming week, Donald Trump is expected to travel back to New York from Florida

to be deposed in relation to a civil lawsuit filed by the New York Attorney General Letitia James.

Last September, James filed a $250 million lawsuit against Trump, his three eldest children, and the Trump organization, accusing them of fraudulent business practices.

In an earlier deposition for James' investigation last summer, Trump refused to answer most questions, pleading

the fifth, more than 400 times. Then, on April 25th of this year, just 16 days from now,

a trial is scheduled to begin in one of the two civil lawsuits that have been filed against Trump

by the author and columnist E. Jean Carroll. A few years ago, Carol published

a book in which she accused the former president of raping her in the dressing room of a luxury

Manhattan department store in the mid-1990s. Trump denied Carol's accusations saying they'd never even

met before and that she was just trying to promote her book. That prompted Carol to sue him for defamation

in 2019, and originally that trial was also set to begin this month, but the judge has postponed

it indefinitely as they wait for the D.C. Court of Appeals to issue a related ruling that will

decide whether that lawsuit can proceed. But last year, E. Jean Carroll filed a second

lawsuit against Trump for defamation and battery under a new law in New York that allows adult

sexual assault victims a one-time opportunity to file civil lawsuits against their alleged abusers,

even if the statute of limitations have long expired.

And the trial for that lawsuit is what's scheduled to begin later this month. Now, to be

clear, the matters involving the New York Attorney General and the E. Jean Carroll lawsuits

are civil suits. James is seeking to impose harsh penalties against the Trumps and their
