Summary

The first public message of Jesus is a condensed gospel message. I think that it boils down the gospel to certain essential truths that we need to be sharing when we evangelize. In particular we will look at the concept of repentance and how pervasive it is in gospel preaching in the New Testament. We'll answer some of the following questions. 1. Is calling people to repentance a normal part of gospel preaching? 2. Is repentance a work? 3. What is the biblical definition of the word "repent"? 4. Can Christians repent multiple times? 0:15.0	covering theology apologetics, historical insights, and various other things.
0:19.2	We're going to focus today though on theology.
0:21.4	Today we're covering among other things what we're doing
0:24.2	verse but one thing we'll be covering in particular I'll spend a good amount of time
0:27.2	on it is a controversy in the church that I don't think should be a controversy
0:31.9	but somehow it is and sometimes that happens
0:34.7	and it has to do with the idea of repentance and we'll be talking about what the
0:38.4	repentance is at work whether it's necessary what does it mean why how
0:41.9	essential is it as part of the gospel all that kind of thing
0:45.6	so here we go will start in mark chapter 1 verse 14 we're just going to read verse 14
0:50.7	14 and 15 we'll do just sort of plod through treatment of it when we get to the part about
0:55.8	repentance I'll break out and do a little as I've said I would do in this
0:59.0	Mark series this like we'll stop and have a little theological examination of a concept, you know, we'll do that as we get there.
1:05.1	So verse 14, it says now after John have been taken into custody, Jesus came into Galilee,
1:12.1	preaching the Gospel of God
1:14.1	and saying the time is fulfilled
1:16.5	and the kingdom of God is at hand, repent and believe
1:20.8	in the gospel. So here's big picture stuff. I want to start with the big
