Matthew chapter 16, verse 23.

But Jesus turned and said to Peter,

Get behind me, Satan.

You are a hindrance to me,

for you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.

What a moment as Jesus is talking about how he's about to suffer and be killed and then be raised from the dead.

And Peter pulls him aside and rebukes Jesus, saying,

Far be it from you, Lord, this shall never happen to you.

Jesus, being rebuked by Peter?

Peter's saying, no, you're not going to suffer like this.

And Jesus looks at Peter and says, get, you're not going to suffer like this.

And Jesus looks at Peter and says, get behind me, Satan.

Which, wow, just let that soak in.

What that must have felt like for Peter in this moment?

To realize that what he was saying was not from God. And that's what Jesus goes on to say,

you're a hindrance to me,

for you are not setting your mind on the things of God,

but on the things of man.

And how easy is it for you and I to do the same thing?

This is what Satan wants us to do, to set our minds daily, all day long, on the things of man instead of on the things of God, to set our mind on what

man says is best, what man says is right, on the ways man would choose,
