Hello and welcome to a special episode of the Cinephiles. My name is Steve Morris. I'm a filmmaker directing instructor in Los Angeles, California.

Hello everyone, my name is John Roca. I'm a voiceover artist, uh, host at producer and writer here in Los Angeles.

And the reason that we're talking right now is sort of a sad reason, which is that

with a great director, Milos Foreman passed away a few days ago.

And we thought he's a director, we have talked about it in the show, but a long long time ago and so we wanted to say a few words about him now

Because he's a fascinating fascinating director and the film that we talked about with him was Amadeus right and it

actually was one of the very first episodes we recorded way back in the very beginning of the show and for me

I don't know how you feel but I think that was the episode where I kind of went oh I think this is going to work.

That was the first episode that we did that I really really loved.

Yeah it was the most nervous I'd been for an episode we were going to do because it was such an immense film to cover and get everything right and talk about.

Plus classical music when you throw that in there as well, which I'm not that familiar with.

So, and it is one of my

favorite films and my father's favorite. I know I know so there was a lot that went

into that and I agree with you when I left that day I felt like we had really got

it right. Yeah I mean because you know as people who've listened to the show from the beginning

or gone back to the early episodes know it took us a while to find our format and to sort of find the

structure and Amadeus I think was a key moment on that journey

where we started to go, okay, this is how this thing is going to work.

And of course, we owe it all to the great director,

Milos Foreman.

He was born in Czechoslovakia.

He actually, he was hidden during World War II.
