The core drive of our species is actually not for food or for the discharge of erotic or aggressive impulses.

We really have one core drive and that is to connect securely with

an attachment figure, another human being for soothing, comforting, connection, emotion,

and co-regulation.

Why is our need for attachment so vital?

Well, I mean, first and foremost, the birth canal is too narrow for big brain big body babies to come issuing out that

can survive on their own.

Many mammals are born and within days they are actually capable of hunting and

attaining shelter.

But our species takes decades before we can actually sustain or become self-sustaining on our own.

We require constant of nurture and protection

for many, many years of our lives to survive.

So what would make adults stick around for the arduous, unpleasant at times task of parenting, changing diapers and

so forth, putting up with constant cries and all that. Well, natural selection to ensure the

survival of our species produced in our brains or embedded the production of oxytocin.
