Well, it's official, this is now the longest government shutdown in U.S. history.

We're now at day 36, with the situation summed up here by Senate Majority Leader John Thune.

As the days roll by, the consequences and pain of the shutdown grow more severe for the

Earlier this week, the Trump administration said it would only provide just half of the usual

stamp benefits this month, while FAA staffing shortages have been causing delays at major

But behind closed doors, lawmakers are working on a deal to try and reopen the government.

According to two Democratic sources familiar with the discussions, about a dozen Senate Democrats

have signaled they're willing to support a stopgap funding bill that would reopen the government

in exchange for a future vote on health care.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump met with GOP senators this morning.
