I want to talk to you tonight from an unusual subject that is in continuation to the unusual subject we've been on.

And we talked two weeks ago, we talked about how preconceptions can become misconceptions.

Last week we talked about reconceptualization.

So we talked again about how preconceptions become misconceptions. We use

John the Baptist as an example of this, who is fully believing that Jesus is going to come

deal with Israel's Roman problem. He's going to come deal with Israel's hypocritical,

phariseical, religious problem. And instead, Jesus comes and dines with outcast and this subversive

approach to how Jesus was going to bring reform not just to Israel but to the world was offensive

enough to John that it actually caused John to miss the kingdom. So we talked about

how John's preconceived ideas, and it wasn't just John who had preconceived ideas. The Pharisees

had preconceived ideas, Sadducees, members of the Sanhedron. Any scribe in Israel had a

preconceived idea that what God was coming to do was promote Israel and bring vengeance on all of Israel's enemies.

What Jesus comes to do is to announce an all-inclusive Jubilee that doesn't put Israel above any other nation.

Now think about that, because Israel is operating in a religious nationalism, much like America is now.

Some people call it Christian nationalism, but it can't because it's not Christian.

It's just religious nationalism.

And religious nationalism is this trap that people fall into whereby somehow they do believe at least subconsciously

that God has favorites and God has others that are less than his favorites and sure he may love them

in a generic sense but not in the same way as he loves America and it cannot work that way

because that would cause God to operate under a measure of prejudice

that is illegal for you and I to operate under.
