We are witnessing a history-making moment this week.

Hi, everybody. I'm Jenna. This is Smarter News.

And I'm talking about the meeting between President Trump and President Xi of China in Beijing.

This is the first meeting of its kind since 2017, where you have the two leaders of two of the world's superpowers, two of the

largest economies in the world coming together for the sole purpose of having a state visit.

And there's a lot of anticipation around this meeting, a lot of different ideas of what could

happen. But since we're still in the stage of wondering what that news is, I thought it would

be wise to reflect upon a conversation I recently had with Gordon Chang.

Gordon Chang is a leading analyst on Asia Affairs. He has a great expertise about China and about

China's role in the world and relationship with the United States.

And that's something that's really important to have someone that's really focused on what's

actually happening inside China.

Because quite frankly, most of us don't have any perspective on that.

China is the largest communist nation in the entire world.

It has a closed media, closed press, closed society.

And so while we may get an economic report here or there or a news event here or there,

we don't actually really know what's happening inside China.
