Summary

Jenna breaks down a major news week as Congress returns to session, April job growth beats expectations, gas prices rise amid renewed uncertainty over U.S.-Iran tensions and oil prices, and several major stories develop at once.

First: a hantavirus outbreak linked to a cruise ship now in the Canary Islands. Jenna explains what officials are saying about the virus, why this strain is raising concern, and how U.S. health officials are responding as American passengers are monitored at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and Emory University in Atlanta. She also highlights the key differences officials are emphasizing between this outbreak and COVID-era concerns.

Then: President Trump is expected to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing. Jenna previews what to watch in the high-stakes U.S.-China meeting, including why tone, timing, and messaging matter.

Finally: the White House launches a new site releasing more than 160 UAP files, raising fresh questions about transparency, government disclosures, and why the possibility of life beyond Earth continues to capture public attention.

We have news on a potential infectious disease outbreak, global conflict, alien files,

0:10.8

and that seems pretty normal for 26.

Hi, everybody.

And those are some of our big stories, outbreak, conflict, alien files. You know, in any other time period, any other news, I would think, it's a strange week, something to be nervous about. I'm ready for this, you guys. We've been, we have been preparing for these moments for years together now in smarter news. And I'm not trying to be flip about it, because these are very serious stories. But when you actually step away and look at some of the headlines, you wonder, why is everyone so stressed from the news? Because the news is stressful when you look at it. There's a lot of things going on. And so one of our goals today is to give you a couple key facts, give you some context for some of these headlines. So we know what's going on and why it matters that we can leave some of the emotion aside just for a second. So let me just set the stage for you for what we anticipate for

0:59.6

this newsweek. We're going to be digging into a couple of these stories. But first things first,

1:04.0

Congress is back in session. So we have lawmakers returning to Washington, D.C., that always impacts

1:08.8

the newsweek because you got a lot of different lawmakers that are available to step in front of any camera. Obviously, everyone has cameras on their phones. But in this way, they're back in D.C. They're rubbing shoulders. They got things going on. And typically we get more news from D.C. when the lawmakers are back in session. On Friday, just to catch you up in case you left the office early on Friday, we had a

1:28.1

jobs report. And the jobs report actually showed better than expected job growth for the month of

1:33.5

April. So that's one of the big headlines. It is slower job growth than March, but better than

1:38.7

expected is always what we're watching for when it comes to Wall Street data. If we're looking at

1:43.1

it in that lens, there is an expectation for data. If we're looking at it in that lens,

1:49.3

there is an expectation for data. And a lot of times it's not necessarily the specific number.

1:54.2

It's about whether or not that number beats or fails to meet expectations. Well, for the jobs report, a beat expectation still doesn't show super robust job growth, but it's better

1:59.3

than the opposite. So it's still a mixed report

2:01.7

for jobs, and the economy remains in focus. I took a look at gas prices real quick for you.

2:07.1

The national price for a gallon of gas, on average, is still hovering around $4.50 a gallon.

2:12.5

Remember, depending on where you live and your state taxes, that's going to look a lot different.

2:17.0

It could be a variation

2:18.1

of a couple dollars across the United States. But that may be from, and I'm just thinking through
