Summary

We’re busy. Even now, when our homes have become our gyms, offices, and more, we tend to hop from activity to activity without pause. The mind feels softer and the body feels more relaxed when we allow ourselves to transition. Today, try to allow for some time in-between activities and see how you feel. Want more Andy? Hey everyone, it's K-Sunga here. I just want to let you know that we've launched a brand

0:07.0

new call and advice podcast called Dear Headspace. Each week the headspace teachers, along

0:14.6

with some amazing new friends, are answering your questions about relationships, work,

0:20.8

life, mindfulness, and just about everything else. It's so different from anything we've

0:27.5

ever created and we're so excited for you to hear it. Dear Headspace comes out every

0:33.2

Tuesday on the Headspace app and anywhere that you listen to podcasts. Thanks for listening.

Hi, my name is Andy and welcome to Radio Headspace. So it's Wednesday. It's the

1:03.1

middle of the week already and I thought today we might chat about transitions. The reason

1:08.0

for that is yesterday I was out having a run and a little while back I was introduced

1:12.9

to the head of running at Nike. Chat called Coach Bennett. If you haven't checked him out,

1:17.7

have a look. We do some runs together on the headspace app on the Nike app. But anyway

1:22.2

we went out and we did a number of sessions together and we were looking at the sort of

1:26.8

coming together of body and mind and in particular sort of how we can run with a greater

1:32.7

sense of ease. And one of the best bits of advice he's ever given me is to start out slow.

1:43.8

By the way if you're not a runner this isn't all going to be about running today. This

1:47.4

is going to be sort of much broader than that but if I think about running I'd run out

1:52.2

at the pace that I wanted to set for the whole run. And within minutes I'd be exhausted.

1:58.7

It was almost like my body hadn't quite had time to warm up. My mind wasn't quite in

2:03.6

that place. This advice to sort of start slow as I went out and ran yesterday. My body

2:09.9

really took a long time to get going and I just kept that in mind. It's okay it doesn't

2:14.9

matter to start slow. And it actually took about 15-20 minutes for my body even to really

2:20.2

feel like it was kind of up and running and ready to perform.
