Hi, it's Andy here and welcome to Radio Headspace. So it's Tuesday morning. I hope you've had a good start to the week.

I was chatting with a friend earlier and we got talking about the current situation and how we're all feeling.

And of course all of us are feeling different sort of day to day.

And we were talking about happiness and is it possible to feel happy in the midst of a global health crisis?

Is it even appropriate should we feel guilty if we feel a sense of happiness at any time?

And as we started to explore this idea, we got into kind of all what are we really talking about when we're talking about happiness?

And I think that's often what kind of gets in the way when we think about how we would like to be sort of happier in our life.

Of course, we're of these moments of magic and delight and joy. And we should celebrate those.

We should welcome them into our life, make space for them.

But those kind of things are quite sort of fleeting. And as long as we have those types of happiness, then we have to have the flip side at some stage two, which is sadness in the same way that if we have excitement at some stage and we have to have sort of anxiety.

So that all of these things have a flip side. And because they are in that world in which there is an opposite, I feel like it's never going to bring any sort of lasting sort of happiness.

So then we get into underneath those moments of fleeting happiness. Is it something a bit more stable? Is it something that can be with us in every moment of our life on a personal level, on a collective level?

In the good times, when things are going well, but also in the difficult times, and maybe here we get into some antics, but maybe it's more about contentment and living peacefully, peace of mind perhaps, rather than happiness.

So when things are difficult, whether it's in our personal life or our collective life, it's very rare that we're going to actually feel happy.
