Today we'll be looking at the reality that Jesus is the ruler of every spiritual power. We're going to dive into that in just a moment.

All right, let's dive into Colossians chapter 1 verses 15 through 17. And I mentioned just before telling you about my books that Jesus is the ruler of all spiritual beings.

We're going to see that in Colossians 1. It says, for by him all things were created in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities.

All things were created through him and for him. Now it's these rulers and authorities and dominions and thrones that we're focusing in on today.

Because the Bible makes it clear in various passages, the book of Daniel is one place where the interaction that spiritual beings have is done according to some kind of hierarchy.

For example, when Gabriel the angel comes to Daniel, he says, I was coming to answer your prayer, but I was opposed by and he calls this the spiritual power. He calls it the prince of Persia and Michael, the archangel had to come and help him in order so that he could get free and come and answer Daniel's prayer.

So there is a little bit of obscurity around it, but it is pretty clear that at least we can say spiritual forces exist and spiritual forces have some sort of hierarchy.

Well friends, what Colossians chapter 1 verses 16 and 17 tell us is that Jesus is at the top of that authority chain.

It doesn't matter if we're talking about angels which are good spirits that stayed allegiance and loyal to God or demons which rebelled against God and are evil in nature.

It really doesn't matter. Jesus is the ruler of all spiritual beings. And the reason this is important is because we can go through life sometimes, even as believers in Jesus, acting very afraid of the devil.

And afraid of the things he brings into the lives of human beings. Now if you read the gospel accounts, there definitely are some things there to be afraid of.

We see demons possessing people. We see demons causing sickness in some cases. We see demons causing insanity in other cases. I mean demons for sure have power.

But friends, Jesus is the power above their power. Jesus is the one who holds their chain so to speak. They cannot act. They cannot do anything without his permission.

And let's take it a step further. We are children of the king. God the Father is our Father. Jesus is our elder brother by his authority.

We are seated with him in the heavenly realms. The book of Colossians tells us. And what that means friends is that we are co-regions with Jesus in terms of authority.

By the power of his death and resurrection, he lends us his authority over the spiritual realm.

And so Jesus, as the ruler of all spiritual beings, is basically standing behind us like a big brother when we have to confront spiritual beings.

Now be careful. We should never go into an encounter with a spiritual being, whether it's through prayer or in a situation where one manifests itself directly.
