Summary

Today I’m addressing the following tweet from someone who is troubled by Christians and others who are concerned about public policy related to transgender issues: “For all those who are terrified of trans people and believe this is more important than any other issue, can you please let me know just once when a trans person harmed you? Hey friends, welcome to my second quick response episode in which I respond briefly to popular

0:11.8

claims I see online that sound good and draw in a lot of Christians but fail from a biblical

0:16.6

and or logical perspective. Today I'm addressing the following tweet from someone who is

0:21.8

clearly troubled by Christians and others who are concerned about public policy related to

0:26.3

transgender issues. Here's the tweet. Quote, for all those who are terrified of trans people

0:32.2

and believe this is more important than any other issue, can you please let me know just once when a trans person harmed

0:39.2

you, one personal specific story, please? End quote. Well, first, note that it's a common tactic

0:47.5

this idea that gender can be separated from biological sex. But once you get past the emotional

1:17.5

language accusing people of being terrified, what's the core claim here? Why did the person take

1:22.9

the time to say what they're saying? Under every statement is a point that someone is trying to make,

1:28.0

whether that's explicit in what they say or not. So as you listen to episodes in this quick

1:32.1

response series, I want you to always try to identify before you listen to my response,

1:36.3

what is the point that this person is really trying to make? In this case, the commenter is

1:43.0

asking for personal examples where a trans person has harmed you.

1:48.1

Now, they don't explicitly say why they're asking, but it's clearly not just out of curiosity

1:52.8

given the context. There's this implied pre-supposition here that we should only be concerned

1:58.6

with trans issues in public policy if trans people are harming others.
