Hey, what's up everyone? Welcome back to the show. Today we're going to talk about cucumbers because we are in the season of the humble cuc.

Now I'm just going to go through a couple different tips. These are just some tips and tricks that I've pulled together over my experiences

growing them and also hearing from a lot of epicardining readers. So first of

all one tip that I'm going to start off with right off the bat is to select disease resistant varieties.

I am suffering from a little powdery mildew on a zucchini plant and it is right next to the cucumber plant and because I chose a cucumber plant that is

resistant, not immune but resistant to powdery mildew, it's insane how it is not really spreading over to my cucumber plant.

So that's pretty wonderful.

So one of the best ways to prevent disease is to choose plants that are resistant to disease

in the first place, right?

That is a fantastic prevention method.

Next one I've got for you. Obviously, give it the right conditions. Sunny, fertile site, well-draining soil.

That's going to be your best bet and make sure you've got some

room. These guys like to sprawl, right? So give it some room. Don't try to

cram it in there. Third tip is going to be setting up a trellis beforehand because you can get a little

bit out of hand with a cucumber plant if you do not set a trellis up and then later on realize you need it and try to force the trellis into the garden.

That's something that's happened to me in the past because I thought,

you know, I'd be fine without a trellis. I was not fine without the trellis and I probably lost even some yield because I had

to more rigorously prune it because I couldn't really get it into a trellised system

after it had started to sprawl. Care-wise, you're going to want to

thin them to about one or two feet apart or so. It's going to depend on the type.

So if it's a slicing or pickling variety that will change the spacing there.

You'll thin cucumber plants to hills.
