Nothing's going to happen until Putin and I get together, okay?

That's what President Donald Trump told reporters about Russia-Ukraine peace talks as he landed

in the United Arab Emirates.

He said he wasn't disappointed that the Russian delegation sent to Turkey for high-level

talks with Ukraine

did not include Russian President Vladimir Putin. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he wouldn't

attend the talks either, saying he doesn't expect a breakthrough until Trump and Putin meet,

quote, face-to-face, but says he hopes to be proven wrong. Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky

called the Russian delegation who did show up, quote, phony.

As he confirmed, peace talks are set to go ahead in Istanbul.

After we understood the level of the Russian delegation,

and we saw that unfortunately they are not serious about real negotiations.

At least we're not seeing yet those real decision makers among those present.

Although I must remind you that it was the Russians who suggested direct negotiations and with President Trump's support.

The head of the Russian delegation and a senior aide to Putin said the team was, quote,

committed to a constructive approach.
