I love it when airplanes take off. You experience all this power and the speed and the lift.

And around here in the Rocky Mountains, a lot of turbulence, too. When marriages first take off,

there is a lot of energy and emotion and turbulence for many people.

And what do you do about that?

Well, I'm John Fuller, joined by Dr. Greg Smalley and his wife, Aaron.

They lead the Focus Marriage Department.

And Greg, expectations going into marriage often create turbulence.

How about you?

Did you have any?

I mean, you grew up with a dad who was very,

very famous for his relationship advice. And I think many people would be surprised to learn

you actually didn't go into marriage knowing everything. Yeah. Yeah. Our marriage started not by

being in an airplane. It was more like a big hot air balloon. So it was very

comfortable, very peaceful, still, serene. You know, I was thinking about this. And I think for me,

Aaron and I, I was here in Denver in graduate school. Aaron was working as a nurse in Phoenix. And so

that's where we had kind of grown up. So we were

a part for our engagement, which created some challenges as far as, you know, when we would then

get together, it was reunion. I mean, we dealt with issues. But for the most part, walking into

marriage, I think my expectation was like like finally we get to be together you know

we're we're actually going to be living in the same you know apartment be so great and so i think

my expectations were more around this is going to be so amazing i've got my best friend

and we're just going to have fun constantly all we're going to do is laugh and play and
