Summary

Anxiety and OCD can bring with it distress, fear and discomfort. But it can also bring self-loathing, shame, guilt and negative self-talk.

When our kids are hard on themselves, their issues can compound, making it difficult for them to use their tools to address anxiety or OCD.

In this episode of the AT Parenting Survival Podcast, I invited Kimberley Quinlan on to talk about how self-compassion plays a large role in the journey of anxiety and OCD. She talks about why it can be difficult to have self-compassion and the ways in which we can grow and foster it.

Kimberley’s book, The Self- Compassion Workbook for OCD comes out October 1, 2021. You can also learn more about her online classes here at CBT School.

Today is a really good topic.

0:32.8

I think it's so important is something that I don't feel like we talk about enough in

0:36.9

the anxiety and OCD world, but I'm seeing it being talked about more often and that is

0:42.2

about self-compassion.

0:44.0

A lot of times with our kids with anxiety or OCD or with ourselves, we miss that step

0:50.3

of how do we foster self-compassion because when you have anxiety or OCD, you also sometimes

0:57.1

have just this negativity or self-criticism or self-doubt and it can really weigh you

down.

1:04.7

So we have been talking a lot about self-compassion in the last, I would say, six or seven

I'm experiencing.
