Summary

Does “self-care” equal “self-ish” to you? Often there is a negative connotation with the idea of focusing on yourself, especially when you have a child who is in crisis. Sadly, that is when self care is the most needed. When we are depleted, anxious or overwhelmed we are in no condition to help our kids. Believe it or not, the very first step in helping our kids with anxiety or OCD is to help ourselves. So how do you do that? Where do you start?I invited Dr. Orlena Kerek to the AT Parenting Survival Podcast to talk to us all about self care! 0:16.2

Podcast. Today we're going to get all into self-care, taking care of yourself

0:22.2

because that's really important. If you don't take care of yourself

0:27.1

there is no way you'll be able to take care of your child with anxiety or OCD.

0:33.4

0:34.8

And unfortunately, all too often,

0:37.2

we are very quick to put that at the end of our to-do list,

0:42.3

to say when I get more time, when things are not as stressful,

0:46.1

I'll focus on me. And I have learned recently in the past year that that's backwards that the more we pour into ourselves the

more we fill our cup up the more we reset and take care of ourselves the better

parents we are the better moms we are the better dads we are, the better moms we are, the better dads we are, the better partners

1:05.1

we are, like the more we show up in life when we take care of ourselves.

1:09.6

So there's a huge payback, there's a huge reward when we spend some time focusing on taking

1:17.2

care of ourselves and that can look different for each one of us and so I

1:21.8

wanted to bring on another guest who is going to talk about self-care.

kind of my big exposure, my big challenge for OCD Awareness Week and I was
