Summary

Raising a child with anxiety or OCD takes a completely different set of parenting skills. Helping kids work through their issues doesn’t have a begin, middle and end. It is a way of life. A way of looking at life. A big part of staying on top of any progress you have gained is learning how to play detective. When you are raising kids with anxiety or OCD you need to be proactive, not reactive. This doesn’t mean you have to live a life full of fear or worry. But it does mean you don’t want to bury your head in the sand. In this week’s podcast episode, I talk about what I mean by “playing detective” and what that would look like in your home.*** This podcast is for informational purposes only and should not be used to replace the guidance of a qualified professional.Visit my website at www.ATparentingSurvival.comInterested in my AT Parenting Community Membership? when they think that that's all you see in them,

0:07.6

that you see everything they do through the lens of anxiety

or through the lens of OCD.

0:13.2

We really don't want our kids to think that that's all we see in them.

0:17.0

We really want to empower them and we want to look at their strengths and the things that

are their superpowers.

0:23.0

So we want to learn how to be a detective in a very covert sort of way.

0:28.0

You don't want to let them know that you're always thinking about it, but, and here's the kind of the balance,

0:35.7

you do need to always be thinking about it on some level.

myself included, where we get overly anxious about our children's issues

and when they're going to pop up and how bad are they going to be and how long are they going to last or we're going through a good period how long is this going to last or this is a horrible period how long is this going to last or what will this look like when they're 25, right?

1:05.4

Do you do that?

1:06.1

I do that too.

1:07.1

It's not good and I really try to stop because it doesn't help anybody.

1:12.3

It creates anxiety in our own body and in our parenting and our kids can feel that

and also we're not productive because we're supposed to be the rock.

1:23.4

We're supposed to be the anchor and we're supposed to stabilize our children, even if we have

to fake it till we make it and take care of ourselves in the back room behind the scenes behind the curtain.

Now that can be a hard thing to do sometimes so I totally get that but really we want to make an effort to try to do that. So the reason why you want to
