Welcome back to Buckeye Talk. Steve it means in Nathan Baird. Come on with you to you with our second half of our fall camp preview.

If you want to hear the first half where we asked it, we talked about the things we are most interested and intrigued by on the offensive side heading in the fall camp.

Check out the Tuesday pod that went up Tuesday afternoon Tuesday evening. So check out that one. So this time we're going to do the defensive side of the ball.

Kind of less position. It's not as, you know, pointing it is kind of like front seven back seven situation here. So that's defensive line that's linebackers that's corner backs that's safeties year two of gym knows year two in this system where you would expect some guys who were maybe younger guy opportunities last year, second year guys and third year guys a lot back on the defensive side of the ball, especially at some important positions Nathan.

We'll start in the front seven. So that's linebacker D line, D line just like on the first pod I let you go first I'll let you pick again, which what's position do you want to start with and what's intrigued by what you're thinking about going into Thursday's fall camp starting.

Well, for Thursday and really throughout fall camp, I want to know how much CJ Hicks plays to the ones. So we'll start with linebackers, I guess, you know, we know the two starters, we know they're established, we know that Jim Knowlesa said he wants Cody Simon to play more, potentially taking snaps from both Tommy Eichenberg and steel chambers.

But the CJ Hicks thing seems like it's coming. And I think more to the point, it's going to seem really strange if we get through this season and he had a very limited role and now you're maybe looking at just one year, maybe we've talked before in a semi joking way about the hooker Lanamore watch list that we do and those were both guys who were either lower rated guys who just blossomed or guys held back by injury.

Not a lot of examples of guys who were legit and were big time prospects and then just came here and had to sit and wait.

Unless it's a position like maybe quarterback where you'll play one at a time, like a position like this and I know they're down to two starters, it just feels like if if he's as good as they say he is, then we'll start to see some indications and preseason camp that they're finding ways to get him on the field.

So I don't anticipate him like stealing a starting spot necessarily, certainly not to start the year, but like what do we see in preseason camp that indicates they have a plan for him.

Yep, that's that's like priority number one for me on defense on Thursday is where's number 11 and what's he doing.

My actual question was you just said, was he playing with the ones I don't think he'll be with the ones I think Tommy and see it will just be with the ones.

But Jim knows through something out there that was asked of him during spring practice and he didn't really want to go there because they weren't thinking about the position yet.

But then doubled back on it at the end of spring, when he wanted minute that he maybe needs to get other guys on the field, but also throughout CJ's name with a position that knows brought from him and my question is, it's CJ Hicks playing the Jack.

And it doesn't really matter for me if it's ones or twos right now because there's just so many questions about that position.

Let's get on Mitchell Mountain to this conversation too from the 914 for what's to deal with Mitchell Mountain.

It's kind of a both for those count if Mitchell Mountain is the guy that coming in the last year, Jim knows really wanted to play that position.

And if he's fully healthy, he's back at it, but he's also thrown CJ Hicks his name out there with the Jack as a way to get that five star recruit and five star talent on to the field.

Is there a battle there maybe because I get it there's been this idea with Mitchell mountains since he got here, but he's been hurt.

Basically every year since he's got here and he wasn't a five star recruit CJ Hicks hasn't been hurt and he was a five star recruit.

So I almost think in a world where you've got an all American linebacker coming back and still chambers is basically locked down that job along with Cody Simon being your number three.
