Summary

Ohio State will open up fall camp on Thursday as it starts preparation for the 2023 season. While quarterback is the most interesting topic for the Buckeyes on offense as they replace C.J. Stroud, it’s not the other player where there are questions. Stephen Means and Nathan Baird discuss OSU’s offense and some things they’re interested to find out about. As part of the discussion: Things start with a discussion about what’s happening on the recruiting trail where the Buckeyes spent the past five days getting both good and bad news across multiple classes. What will the offensive line look like on Day 1 and how will it evolve over the next month? Cade Stover is the starting tight end. But in a room with six scholarship players is there legitimate depth behind him? Brian Hartline returns all three starting wide receivers while a battle carries on behind them. Can anyone start making headway to be a starter in 2024? With five talented options, how will Tony Alford handle things in the running back room? Thanks, as always, for listening to Buckeye Talk. So we'll come back with that after we talked to those guys because there's no reason reason for us to repeat ourselves, especially because the only question that matters with quarterbacks right now is who's going to be the starter.

1:05.0

So we'll come back to that. So we'll discuss on this Tuesday pod, you're getting this this afternoon, we'll discuss basically the rest of the offense.

What questions do you have offensive line tied in, running backs, wide receivers, we'll discuss that.

Some recruiting stuff because it has been an eventful really three, four, five days of recruiting stuff for Ohio State, really going back to last Friday.

If we're being honest here, they get Chris Henry, the first commitment of the 2026 class.

1:34.0

Chris Henry Jr., the son of the late Chris Henry senior who pledged for the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2000s, who has been living with Adam Pakman Jones since his father's passing has developed

into the type of recruit who I've kind of been saying this in Texas, Texas in the South, the last year and a half.

1:52.0

So since he got the offer, this is a kid who's probably going to be a five star recruit when those 2026 recruiting rankings do come out.

1:59.0

He's about six foot five, 185 pounds. He's in the same mold as receiver as a guy like Marvin Harris and we're seeing right now or Jeremiah Smith in the 2024 class, the top wide receiver there.

2:10.0

So he showed up on Friday for Ohio State Summer Fest, which is just you get this little small window at the end of July where you can have kids on campus.

2:22.0

And sometimes there's some big names there for the lowest part. It's typically for Ohio State a lot of in state kids, you know, they look forward to the future with that if they just spent all of June worried about the current class and trying to build that class with official visits.

2:36.0

They typically look forward to the future with this little window here with the summer fest thing and we don't typically get to do this.

2:43.0

We don't typically get to, you know, wait around for these kids visits to end like you see at some other schools and talk to them, but Ohio State let us do that this time.

2:52.0

And it's probably because it's kids who are younger and aren't necessarily having to make decisions right now.

2:57.0

So Chris Henry walks out of the Woody and we're all standing there. It's about four or five media members, not the biggest thing in the world.

3:04.0

And he's like, I'll give you guys some of my time. And so he starts talking to all of us about how the visit went.

3:10.0

And for those who have never seen Chris talk or have never had a chance to meet him, he's not the loudest, most, you know, out there.

3:20.0

He's really to himself in a reserved type of guy. And so his court, he's also young. So he's not putting together the best sentences, but he's just saying the visit went good every time he comes back here.
