I spoke to my colleague Gregor Acopoli of Defense and Foreign Affairs about Xi Jinping, the absolute power he has in the people's liberation army navy to launch them when he wills against Taiwan and most of East Asia.

However, the puzzle for me is, what does Xi make of what's going on in Moscow?

Does he have an opinion of Putin's vulnerability?

Does it touch him in some fashion given the power Xi has and what we can see right now Putin's qualified power?

Gregory answers very carefully what Xi makes of Russia and it's not coherent.

He is well aware that Russia is not his friend.

In fact, the reports we've done about the new North South Russian overland route to the Indian Ocean is very much aimed at it has been for the dreams of the Russians over the past 40, 50 years in circling China.

So we basically she knows that Russia is not going to come to the aid of China or the PRC.
