and other tales is a collection of short stories and fairy tales written by English author

Mary de Morgan, published in 1900. Many of her stories are about everyday people who

encounter strange and fantastical elements in their lives. Some of her stories have more

adult themes, while others are reminiscent of old-fashioned children's fables. This season

will hear four stories. In the story of a cat, a miserly old man adopts a beautiful prize

cat, but his prejudices are brought to light when a street cat scratches at his window, hoping

to be let inside. The wind fairies is about a young girl who is taught to dance by the magical

spirits who bring the wind. She promises never to reveal their identity in exchange for

their protection throughout her life. One day, their pact is put to the test when her

beautiful dancing convinces the king and queen that she's a witch. In the plowman and

the gnome, tricky gnome strikes a deal with a plowman to make his life better in exchange

for the best of everything he has. But the gnome grows angry when the plowman marries

and makes impossible demands of the new wife. The rain maiden is the story of a shepherd's

wife who helps a beautiful, ethereal woman in the middle of a storm one night. She receives

the gift of a beloved, yet otherworldly daughter who laughs to dance in the rain. We hope you
