Good evening and welcome to the Sleepy Bookshelf.

This season, which is exclusive to Premium, we will be reading two short stories by English

author and essayist, Virginia Woolf.

We know our listeners are as unique as our novels and lucky for you, our bookshelf is so

varied with lots of different types of stories to lull you into a deep sleep.

The following is just a preview to give you an idea of what to expect from this season.

Both of these stories come from Woolf's 1921 collection entitled Monday or Tuesday.

They feature her classic stream of consciousness style of writing.

The first story, Q Gardens, is a snapshot of the title and location on a warm July afternoon.

A snail moves slowly across the ground.

A young couple goes out for a walk and an older couple thinks back on the loves they have

known before.

In the second story, the mark on the wall, the narrator ponders what might have caused

a little spot on the wall of a home.

Could it be a nail?

A leaf?

These ideas lead the narrator to consider the nature of writing, social norms and one's

own place in the world.
