This is John Bachelor.

A conversation with my colleague Rebecca Grand of the Lexington Institute,

a fact that China has a lot of business interests in Ukraine before the war,

and there is no reason to believe they've gone away.

Rebecca looks to the future when and if the ceasefire or the resolution of the conflict

begins, China will again be interested in investing in

and participating in and co-partnering with and buying pieces of Ukraine. Is that the future for Ukraine? It certainly is for parts of

Afghanistan. China is an opportunistic capitalist state that comes with a heavy, heavy price tag. More of this later. Thank you.

Two points. Back in July, China, I think, would love to swoop in and be seen as a global peacemaker in Ukraine.

They've tried several different peace initiatives and they really haven't gone anywhere.

But the other reason, remember, is China, of course,

did have a lot of business interests in Ukraine.

Ukraine has a pretty good supply of rare earths and lithium and some other substances that are

that are mined there and if people were thinking well you know maybe this war is

just going to be about over I wouldn't be surprised

that China's business community was eyeing Ukraine and personally that's the

last thing I want to see I want to see Russia defeated but I do not want to

see Ukraine be taken over by Chinese businessmen
