This is John Batcher, a conversation with my good colleague Bob Zimmerman about the Inspector General at NASA, a scathing report of Boeing.

Now charged with building the third stage for the SLS, NASA's bid to return to the moon. Troubled conditions,

troubled workmanship, troubled timeline. Boeing is a profoundly troubled company and the new CEO is hired a man with

aerospace background hired to fix it. It's starliner that's at ISS and can't return. It's the third stage for

SLS now said to be unacceptably troubled. Maybe another company, maybe commercial space, I don't have an answer.

Yes, Boeing is building for NASA

a new more powerful upper stage for its SLS rocket.

It was supposed to be completed in 22 for, what is it, for about a billion dollars, it is now not going to be completed and ready until

27 for a cost of almost 2.8 billion.

That's a 3 times the cost.

And Boeing is building it for NASA, this upper stage.

And so the Inspector General of NASA

did an analysis and it basically blasted Boeing's management

and operations at its Macau facility in Louisiana saying this, this, this, everything is bad, the training is bad the workforce is bad the

the standards are bad the quality control is bad it was a blasted report

these blasted report. These are the same kind of quality control problems that have plagued

star line and the same kind of problems that had NASA in 20-20 announced that it was that it's Boeing's bid to provide cargo to

Luna Gateway was so bad that NASA decided in 2020 it will no longer

can consider future Boeing bids until the company straightens it out
