This is John Batchel, conversation with Blaine Holt, retired General United States Air Force,

formerly the Deputy Military Representative to NATO on the Chinese fighter aircraft.

They've just unveiled something, the J-35, that is new.

In production for some time now are two older aircrafts that I learned from Blaine

form the backbone, the scale of the Chinese air defense, the J20 and the J10. And here, General

Blaine instructs us as to what they do, what they're good for, what they're not good for,

the J20 and the J-10.

The J-20 is pretty much, along with the J-10, is becoming the staple of the Chinese PLA.

It's, or the Air Force. It is, it is stealthy. It's a bomb

truck. It's a single seat twin engine aircraft, but it's a very good aircraft. The problem with it is

it doesn't have very good range and it's heavy. And it doesn't deliver very large ordinance. It's much more meant as a

coastal defender. The coup in the J20 program was actually what you just described, John,

which is the information warfare that came with Secretary Gates being there and them wanting to

unveil that flight at the exact same time. That was a in-your-face message

and we won't be treated as little China and big America. And that kind of is emblematic of all

of the comms that we see coming out of Jong-Nan Hai in Beijing. You said coastal defense. What does that

mean, General? That means that you could use that aircraft because of the armaments on it are smaller.

They're not over the horizon.

You could use it for interceptors, inbound aircraft.

You know, at that time, China was declaring that America was trying to contain it and that it was vulnerable to

attack from the sea. You could also see the J20 being used as a bomber in a Taiwan scenario,
