This is John Batchel, a conversation with my colleague Bob Zimmerman of Behind the Black.

0:06.2

Why was there a banana?

0:07.9

Bob tells me it was a plastic banana, floating freely in the enormous cargo bay of super heavy starship for the successful six tests.

0:18.8

Why a banana?

0:20.5

What is it doing? It's attached by strings. It was

0:22.7

floating around in near zero-g gravity. Bob answers that. Had to do with FAA requirements,

0:29.3

with cargo, with approving for cargo in the bay. That will probably be initially, will be starlings.

0:41.1

A floating banana, and Bob solves the mystery for me.

0:43.8

I did puzzle.

0:45.5

Yeah, it's zero-g gravity, but why a banana?

0:48.6

Here's Bob.

0:49.5

More of this tonight.

0:50.4

The second thing they did is, in SpaceX's irreverent way, they decided to put a payload

0:56.8

on this particular starship. It was a single plastic banana suspended by cords in the payload bay,

1:03.4

which is very tiny in this giant payload bay. But they did it, they said, to fulfill the FAA's

1:10.6

payload requirements so that it can approve, certify, and

1:14.5

certify future payloads like Starlink.

1:18.3

So they put this in there, and they tested how it worked, and they were able to demonstrate

1:22.4

that their payload system is going to work as well, and that was the success.

1:26.0

So overall, this has been an amazing success.
