This is John Batchel, a conversation with Patrick Tucker of Defense 1, the technology editor,

0:05.9

about Dan Cain, John Daniel Cain, nominated to be the new chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff,

0:12.6

an F-16 pilot, but also Operation Inherent Resolve against the ISIS in the Middle East,

0:20.8

perfecting and developing a program that called

0:24.2

Maven, which is an AI search of hours and hours and hours of surveillance from drones

1:28.4

Creech Air Force Base in Nevada sitting in very hot little, basically tankers and just watching

1:34.9

drone footage for long, long periods of time.

1:37.9

And what Maven allowed you to do is you kind of automate the very dull part of that,

1:42.1

and the program would tip or cue analysts when something

1:46.1

of interesting would happen.

1:47.6

So that was now, that has become basically the model by which the U.S. military is developing
