This is John Batchel. Speaking with colleague Mark Simon, long-time executive of Apple Daily, now closed in Hong Kong by the mainland authorities. The boot stepped on it. Jimmy Lye was arrested. He's been in jail for these years, and his trial is spilling out over the summer. Mark here tells us about Jimmy's health.

Jimmy Lai is 77, 70, in his 78th year,

and the conditions in his cell are very poor.

The long hot summer in a tropical prison in Hong Kong, waiting for the verdict, which is

preordained, guilty, guilty, guilty. More of this later tonight. I don't get detailed information

as no one does. We do know that when he was in the court last year, it was public information. He was sick a couple of times.

Jimmy's in his 78th year. He's 77 years old. We're going into another hot summer in Stanley Prison

where it's open knowledge. He does not have a window. They've moved him to a window is down the hall for him. He does not have a window. They've moved him to a, the window is down the hall

for him. He does not have air conditioning. It's basically a tropical prison. He's 77 years old.

It's not the best situation there is right now. So we're very worried about him. And my belief is, it's my hope that my

belief is that it's not going to be a pleasant summer for Jimmy. We can all you,

everybody knows the temperature there. And yet at that age, he's going to be sitting there having

quite a few problems.
