This is John Batchel, a conversation with the author, Joseph Tariggy, and a professor at Stanford

University, whose new book, The Party Interests Come First.

This is a biography of a man who was an original revolutionary in China, joining the Communist Party in 1926, named

Zhang Shun, Shi Zhang Shun, father of Xi Jinping, the now general secretary and absolute master,

were told the Chinese Communist Party.

This is his dad.

And this particular passage, Joseph describes how his dad was purged and jailed for many years

and then let out of prison, but slowly. Why? Mao is the reason.
