I actually think this episode and this whole Operation Genoa thing at its conclusion,

I actually think I have unlocked, like my third eye has been opened when it comes into the

newsroom. I thought it was open before.

Like there's something fundamental that I feel like the whole Operation Genoa thing has

helped me understand about what's actually going on in this show.

Because as we have constantly pondered in our discussion of the second season,

what is going on with Operation Genoa?

You will all remember that before we knew the answer, I predicted rightly as it turned out, that the Operation Genoa story was going to be a dud.

And the whole Operation Genoa thing was puzzling, right?

Because it seemed like this show was actually flirting with the idea that Newsnight is going to get a major scoop

that's about, you know, the U.S. military doing something very bad, right? There are even bits of

dialogue in meetings and such where, you know, Jerry in particular is saying things like, oh, is it

okay because like it's your guy that's doing it? And I I'm thinking wow, this feels really out of character for Sorkin

But the other part of my brain was saying but no like it's gonna be a dud and to be clear it's out of character for him because it's a critique of American imperial power

Yeah and like liberalism and this aired during Obama this aired during this aired in 2013 right Sorkin is a big Obama guy

So it didn't really make any

sense the other thing it didn't make sense and which i think is is a puzzle about this show that

until now i did not know how to decode is this is a show whose broader underlying mission

supposedly is to show us the news done right and we're now almost two seasons deep in the newsroom and it genuinely

feels like most of the episodes have been about they fucked something up. Like when do they ever

do a scoop that's not a dud? When do they ever not do fake news? And that had me scratching

my head as well because Sorkin loves his protagonist too much and I didn't really understand what was going on and
