Well, our movie on this episode is 2018, Sorry to Bother You, the feature film debut of the rapper and activist Boots Riley.

We do have a flawed democracy, but I don't care. I disagree that we have a flawed democracy,

because in this case, the plurality opted once again for us to watch a good movie. That's fun,

and I appreciate that. The other movie we did this week was Welcome to Mooseport with Ray Romano and

Gene Hackman. So given that that's kind of what we're swimming in,

I was very happy to be able to watch Boots Riley. Sorry to bother you.

Funny that one month you think it is a flawed democracy and then the next month you don't

think it's a flawed democracy when your preferred candidate wins. Yeah, I'm just like both of

America's major political parties. When I win, the country is

redeemed and when the other side wins by, I don't know, 0.1%. Everyone in the states that didn't vote

for my preferred candidate should die. Well, be that as it may, I like this movie too. This was my

second time seeing it. Had you seen it before? Yeah, this was also my second time seeing it.

Just off the top, something I think this movie captures in a very funny and accessible and not oppressive and depressing way is the pervading sense of hopelessness that we all feel.

That sense that not only is the system irreparably rigged, but that all of the escape hatches that seem to have

accidentally been built into it were actually deliberately built into it as a way to reinforce it.

Things like art and protest, these are not glitches in the matrix that we can like hack

to subvert the system. there are release valves that were built

into the system as a way of keeping it functioning. That's something that this movie captures
