these vague remarks by the president for life. Rick, what's he talking about? New forces

John, this is about the third major statement that Xi Jinping has made in 2023,

exhorting his nation to prepare for combat, to accelerate training and preparations,

and the incorporation of new technologies. It's quite a contrast to the emerging picture

of the People's Liberation Army floating on a kind of ocean of corruption and leaders

doing other things than preparing for war. Xi Jinping's exhortations could, on one level,

his way of trying to pierce that and to put his high command on notice, their first job

is to prepare for war. But on another level, this is also a boilerplate of the kind that has

been increasing over the last several years. And the logical conclusion would simply be that

the Chinese Communist Party and its leadership with Xi Jinping at the core is telling us

what they are all about. And that is to prepare for war in the Taiwan Strait and then to prepare
