This is CBS, I in the world. I'm John Bachelor with Gordon Chang at Gordon T. Chang, my colleague and co-host and friend,

decoupling from China, de-risking from China. I mentioned as we begin this conversation with Rebecca Grant,

president of virus independent research, visiting fellow at the Lexington Institute,

that a feature in the Wall Street Journal in these last hours emphasizes

China's future in a gloomy fashion that not even numbers from Wall Street

can predict. This has to do with child rearing and the

number of babies per family and the willingness or unwillingness of young women to have many children or children at all.

What we have here is the direct result of bad decisions and errors and stupidity made by Deng Xiaoping, the man credited with the Chinese

miracle mandating the One Child Policy in 1980.

Gordon, you've long spoken of the one child policy as tyranny.

Now it looks to be also self-destruction. Is China recognizing this as it talks to its people? Is this a topic to be raised by the Chinese Communist Party, Gordon?
