Japan set for, quote, guinea pig trade talks with U.S. after Donald Trump's tariffs.

Subhead, Tokyo first in line for negotiations that will be closely watched as test case of Washington's

trade war strategy. This looks to me like good news. Japan and the United States work very well

together. There is something to talk about, which is the extreme imbalance about cars and perhaps agricultural as well.

But these are two friendly powers who have both lined up against the People's Republic

of China.

How do you regard this idea as a guinea pig?

Will the rest of the world, the friendly world, take note?

It's, I think, noteworthy that the Financial Times, which is one of the leading, what I would call globalization cheerleaders in the global media decides to use the word guinea pig rather than what I think

would be a more accurate and certainly more respectful term, which would be template.

Now, that's not to say that the United States faces the exact same kinds of trade barriers

with all countries, but certainly Japan is really
