And now the third title, Accepting a Yes or a No.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name is the first petition, the second

one, thy kingdom come, the third thy will be done.

And then from those huge broad generalities, which we don't always feel as though we recognize

the answers to, we come down to the very humble human petition, give us this day our daily

bread, which is an acknowledgement that we are in need, we personally, even if we can

sort of dismiss as dim uncertainties, all that may be involved in the answering of

the first three petitions, we certainly can't dismiss as a dim uncertainty the petition

give us this day our daily bread.

Again we are acknowledging the fact that we are children, we are dependent.

One of the things that most draws out our deepest maternal instincts, the minute we see

that first little child, is the sense of total helplessness of the child.

And you know that without you, that child would be in big trouble.

No, no creature that God has ever made, I suppose, is as helpless as far as I understand

it as a human baby, you know how animals are, you watch a calf be born, you can't believe

how fast that little creature staggers up onto those wobbly legs and in very short order,
