| 0:34.9 | I'm here with Luke and Denny and John Wellborn. What's up, guys? What's going on? |
| 0:41.1 | All right. Well, John, first of all, thanks for being on. Our listeners appreciate when |
| 0:47.0 | the man behind the scene gets on and answers some questions. And one of the questions that we wanted |
| 0:52.7 | to talk to you about was, what are your thoughts on the power athlete team series and um why team series instead of occupy strength uh i feel like occupy was so 2012 that we needed a kind of a pressure challenge um the other thing too too, when we really morphed into this power athlete mentality, we kind |
| 1:15.1 | of got into this, or got back to kind of this team mentality. |
| 1:19.5 | CrossFit's such an individualized sport. |
| 1:21.9 | And having played football, I always worked within a team environment. |
| 1:25.3 | So when we really started looking at, hey, what do we want to do? |
| 1:28.5 | We want to kind of morphine and grow this thing, do something fresh, do something fun. |
| 1:33.1 | The Power Athlete Team Series was brought to the table. |
| 1:35.0 | And we all kind of agreed, like, we want to do like a four-course and team. |
| 1:38.5 | And the idea of actually kind of specializing with a lift and then kind of, you know, pitting the strong |
| 1:46.1 | versus the conditioning part. And it kind of went back to this philosophy or really the phenomenon |
| 1:52.1 | we used to see in the NFL where we had this deal. And I talk about the seminars, but look |
| 1:57.0 | like guitars and played like James. I mean, there were guys that, you know, were, you know, draft, I mean, a combine monster that had the 40-inch vertical and 300 pounds and 6% body fat, and they did 40 reps on the bench, and they just had these phenomenal numbers. And then they go out the very first day and you'd hit them once, they'd crumble like they were made of, you know, tissue paper. So we used to call these guys all the time look like tars man play like jane and then there were other guys that looked like they won a contest and then we're driving a beer truck that would just show up and would just murder people and so it was you know you can't really judge a book by its cover now obviously there's certain guys in the NFL where they look the part, you know, you look like that Willis linebacker guy from the Niners was, you know, the guy's dieseled out. So, you know, when we put this thing together, we wanted to kind of pair the strong and the strength and conditioning and are you fit, are you able, are you athletic, are you able to change directions and do a lot of things? And so this kind of was the natural progression for what are you training for. And being able to kind of bring in some people. And the thing which was awesome in our first contest is the people that posted the biggest total did not win the event. So we had a girl that squatted 400 pounds, but couldn't do a box jump. So she was plenty strong, |
| 3:08.2 | but was she dynamically strong? Was she a power athlete? And, you know, for me, my definition |
