This is CBS Eye in the World. I'm John Boucher. The governor of California, Mr. Newsom,

the governor of Florida, Mr. Dishantists, debate, question mark, Bill Whale. At the Hoover

Institution, he keeps his guests busy with his podcast, but right now I'm keen on a time

machine that Bill makes available on his most recent column of California Dreaming, which

is a time machine back to 1967 to come with an analogy of Dishantists versus Newsom, 1967,

Kennedy versus Reagan. Bill, a very good evening to you. The link that you provide in your

excellent column takes us to 1967. The scale of this debate, one, a Kennedy, the Famine

needs no introduction, Bobby Kennedy, and the other Ronald Reagan, then the governor

of California. What do we learn from that debate that can inform us, if and when, there's

a Dishantist Newsom conversation on television? Good evening to you. Good evening, John.

We learned that it's a different world in 1967 than 2023. No news there, I suppose, but

you just watched the video. It's fascinating. First of all, it's in black and white.

This is back when satellite technology technology was still primitive and only in about

a fifth or six year of existence, so it's not the greatest equality like you see today,

but you see two things that stand out. Number one, this is the debate between Reagan and

Bobby Kennedy, but what they're doing is they're fielding questions from a group of students

over London. It's a debate over the war and Vietnam one topic. It's really the two of them

asking questions back and forth. It's a very kind of civil conversation. Second thing

you see here is just gifted Ronald Reagan is a politician, and that he not only gets great

speeches, but he's very quick on his feet. He's Amy Bull getting a lot of nasty hostile questions

from students over London, but he handles all very easily. And John, it's just it's kind

of a narrative that that is Ronald Reagan and that he is at all times in his career underestimated
