This is the Friends of History Debating Society. I'm John Battsford, Michigan.

Michigan is the center of concern for both parties, we're told,

because it's one of the six swing states. I live in Connecticut. This is not a

swing state. My vote as a Republican has no significance whatsoever. This is a

solid blue state. There are solid red states all around Ohio is one of them. So votes

in Ohio are significant in registering your civic duty but they are not persuasive for the Electoral College.

Michigan we're told is.

Is that correct that is because you know very well Michigan's politics have been

in turmoil these last month.

Well Michigan has problems with the party over the chairmanship there's been problems

with fundraising there's been a lot of

difficulties since the 2016 election we've seen the Republican

congressional delegation go to the Democrats we've seen state legislature go to the Democrats. We've seen the state legislature go to the Democrats.

We've seen Governor Whitmore elected twice.

The Attorney General is a Democrat.

Secretary of State is now a Democrat.

And the Supreme Court is now held by the majority of people nominated by the Democratic Party.

We've seen a lot of ballot proposals the Democrats put forward to be passed including basically abortion up through nine months.

And for purposes of the 2024 election,

they have codified in the Michigan Constitution.

The COVID rules which have loosened the laws regarding voting and voter identification.

So when and how often you can vote. So politically the Democrats have
