Welcome to this last panel, Spectator panel of Tuesday at Conservative Party Conference.

To let you guys know what we're doing here, we normally record these policy podcasts within

Fraser Nelson's office at The Spectator, but we thought, you

know, given this one coincides with conference, we're not doing front of a live audience,

and you guys can give us your questions, you know, instead of shouting at your podcast player,

you can ask us here directly, and don't worry if you don't have questions, but I might pick

So to start with, let me just set the scene.

These days, Conservative Party is not just associated with the colour blue.

It's also the winner of the Red Wall seats, the pursuer of a green agenda.

But do these new identities achieved under Boris Johnson all fit together?

In particular, critics often label tackling the climate change problem as a middle-class

pursuit, not what real people around the country are concerned with.

And indeed, the Treasury and Bays have put the costs of net zero at 70 billion pounds a year.

So what does this mean for the less well-off in society, especially those in the Tories

new constituencies in the Red Wall?

So to discuss, I'd like to introduce my panel.

To my left, I've got Andrew Griffith MP, who is the government's net zero business champion.

I was recently appointed the parliamentary private secretary to the prime minister,

so very much appreciate his time here.
