What's going on everyone? Welcome back to the epic gardening podcast. I'm going to keep today's episode a little bit short and we're going to continue on our garlic journey.

So we're going to talk about when to plant garlic. If you haven't already tried garlic in the garden, it's pretty easy to

grow overall, so I would recommend it, and you kind of just set it and forget it. So, fall is traditionally the best time to plant garlic in many

different regions. So onions, other plants in the Allium family, they are all

sensitive to the length of the day, and they all mature during the

longest days of summer. Now that seems like a long payoff, but if you plant in fall,

you're giving your garlic a jump start on the growing

season, and it's actually going to be one of the first things that comes up in your garden

in the spring.

So when it comes to how to plant it, all you need to do is make sure that you have your

soil prepared properly.

They need well cultivated, well draining, and rich soil.

In a perfect world, you'd keep their pH of that soil around 6.4 to 6.8 and then what

you'd want to do is also add some organic matter like compost or manure to your

beds before you plant them. Now you can grow

garlic from a bunch of different sources. You can even try growing it from the

grocery store but I would not recommend that.

I would recommend buying high quality seed garlic

and then trying a couple different varieties

just in case one of them doesn't do very well in your region.

You'll want to separate the clothes no more than two days before
