who is a philosophy professor at the University of Wyoming. Bradley, welcome to the show.

Glad you were able to come on and do this.

You've been doing some pretty serious writing about Bitcoin recently.

Maybe I actually don't know a lot about your journey into Bitcoin.

You mentioned offline. It's been a

couple of years. Maybe you just give me the high level detail of how you got into the space.

Yeah, sure. It was the summer of 2013. I came back from the summer break to grad school at the University of Notre Dame and one of my classmates who was, I think, starting his fifth year, as I was starting my fourth year, had spent the summer getting super into Bitcoin and learning about it and getting obsessed with it and ended up, I think,

sending a wire to some Russian bank so that he could buy Bitcoin on BTCE.org.

And then all he wanted to talk about come the fall semester was Bitcoin.

So no matter what classes anyone was doing or what we were working on,

he would always just try to steer the conversation towards Bitcoin. And so I'd get little chunks of it here and there, but nothing

really that piqued my interest. But when we finally sat down and had a beer and had a real

conversation about it, and he started telling me the ideas behind it, my mind immediately

went to this line in a mall in Singapore, where I lived as a

kid, where people would line up to send money back home. So they were from the Philippines or Bangladesh

or whatever, and they would move to Singapore, they would work, and then they would send money back.

And they would pay so much money

to send money back. And I thought, well, if we could just do this all on the internet, we don't

need these money transmitters anymore. So that was my first insight into how Bitcoin could help people.
