We got as far as the third verse of chapter four last week. We're going to finish that chapter today. Final exhortations. Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again. Rejoice. Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything,

but in every situation by prayer and petition with Thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true,

whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable.

If anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about such things. Whatever you have learned or

received or heard from me or seen in me, put it into practice,

I love these verses, especially that second part there, but let's jump into this.

Rejoice in the Lord always.

Paul has led a difficult life, and Paul has had a lot of hardship since he became a Christian

and since he's gone off on these missionary journeys.

He's talked about being shipwrecked.

He's talked about being beaten and in prison.

But we're also talking about the person who beaten and chained in the dungeon in Philippi was singing hymns to God.

And so when he writes to them and they know this history of Paul, that Paul and Silas were in that jail with the wounds from having been beaten still fresh.

And they were singing hymns to God.

As he writes to this church, he is probably writing to a church that includes that jailer.

Because remember, that jailer became a Christian because of the ministry of Paul,
