Hebrews chapter 12, verses 1 and 2.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses,

let us also lay aside every weight and sin which clings so closely and let us run with endurance the race

that is set before us.

Looking to Jesus, the founder and perfector of our faith, who for the joy that was set

before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne

of God.

Whoa.

There is so much in these two verses.

There's a reason why these are two of the most well-known verses in the book of Hebrews.

Just get the picture.

So just to put it all together, get the picture of what God

is saying to you right now. One, you are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses. The whole chapter

before this, Hebrews chapter 11, just goes through name after name after name of people who have lived

by faith, who have trusted in God. And picture your life

surrounded by these witnesses who are cheering you on. That's the imagery here. Abraham and Moses

and all these men and women who've gone before us saying, keep trusting, it's worth it. God is worthy of your

trust. They are cheering you on today. So lay aside weights and sin, which clings so closely,

basically anything that's keeping you from running after God today. Lay it aside and run.

That's the language, run, not walk.
