A little while ago, I was asked to host a panel for a very different audience than we usually speak to.

It was part of a conference called Mating in the Metacrisis, organized by our dear friend Estere Perel,

who's of course a famous psychotherapist, a New York Times best-selling author,

and an expert on modern relationships in the age of AI.

We're in this room full of clinical psychologists who are there to find out how to help people

whose relationship to AI, and often their new quote-unquote relationships with AI,

are about to get deep, vulnerable, and complicated.

In our discussion, MIT sociologist Dr. Sherry Turkle, may be the world expert on technology, empathy, and ethics,

argued that we each have this inner life that makes us uniquely human and that can never truly be nurtured by an AI.
