| 1:26.3 | Freud speculated with these impulses of sensuality and aggression. |
| 1:33.4 | And these are not very smart impulses. |
| 1:37.6 | They're largely in a part of the psyche, |
| 1:42.0 | the unconscious realm, where we have very little control over them in terms |
| 1:46.2 | of when they begin to arise. |
| 1:49.4 | The ego, the second part of the psyche is the realm of consciousness that allows us to guide how we seek pleasure in the world and constrain how we act out on aggression. |
| 2:06.2 | The realm of the ego is to really postpone or compromise or limit the flow of our impulses so that we don't get ourselves in a lot of trouble. |
| 2:21.6 | If we act out on every single aggressive impulses, we'd be kind of |
| 2:25.9 | fucked. Most of us would be in jail. And so the ego was according to Freud a reality principle. |
