Well, it is my honor and privileged to discuss together this morning what it means to tell

others about Jesus, telling others about Jesus.

In Acts chapter 1, verse 8, it says this, but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit

comes upon you and you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere in Jerusalem,

so Judea, Samaria and to the utter ends of the earth, even Portland.

Jesus invites us to tell others about Him.

But here's the challenge, how on earth are we going to do that?

How on earth are we going to do that in this cultural moment?

With all the difficulties and the challenges in this cultural moment of telling others

about Jesus, I was raised in the northern part of the United Kingdom in a town which is

very atheistic and to be a Christian was in a deep minority.

I knew no one in my school growing up who was a Christian.

I knew very few people at college who were Christians.

I was raised in an environment where to tell others about Jesus would be anti-intellectual,

be a social faux pas, you would lose friends, you would lose your reputation.

And today is not too dissimilar.

When Lizzie and I, my wife were invited to move to LA in 2011 to plant a church on the

west side of LA called Vinci's Church in Santa Monica, we knew that we were going to

arrive in a cultural moment where telling others about Jesus was a deeply unpopular

thing to do.

This was brought home to me about six months before we actually moved.

We were invited to plant this church in LA but we didn't really know anyone there.
