I welcome my colleagues Bill Rojo, the Foundation for the Defense of Democracy, and the

Sainte-Conny former ambassador to Pakistan, from Pakistan to the United States, now at

the Hudson Institute.

Mr. Ambassador, the headlamps and Reuters of the Doings in Pakistan are surprising and

at the same time require a lot of attention.

For example, Reuters headline, Pakistan's Imran Khan held in small, dirty prison cells

as lawyers.

In addition, lawyers for Pakistan's convicted Imran Khan to meet him in jail.

For example, Imran Khan, Yahoo News, is his political future over now he is in jail.

For example, CBS News, ex-Pakistan leader Imran Khan's lawyers to challenge graph sentence

that has ruled him out of elections.

Mr. Ambassador, when we last spoke, Imran Khan was a major challenge to the Sharif government.

A Prime Minister Sharif had called for new elections, perhaps as I believe sometime

October November.

And now Khan is in jail.

Are these events connected?

What to make of Khan being ruled out of an election where he stands a good chance of

being returned to power?
