Summary

For this episode I am joined by my lovely mammy Aideen to talk about what it was like for her to see me, her daughter, go through a very tough time with anxiety and help listeners when it comes to articulating their anxiety to their parents if they find that their parents don't understand. This is also a great episode to ask a family member to listen to in order to support you. She talks about what she learned about mental health, anxiety and how things have changed since her generation when anxiety was never spoken of and mental health issues were put down to 'suffering with your nerves'. I hope you find this episode helpful and thanks to my mammy for being a great sport.

Hello, dear listeners, and welcome back to season four of owning it, the anxiety podcast

0:27.0

with me, Caroline Forin. I now have a very special guest on the show, and you might think

0:34.1

it's going to be some glamorous celebrity. She's glamorous all right, but she's not a

0:38.9

celebrity. She's my beautiful mother, Aideen. You might recognize her from all the times that I'm

0:43.8

mortify her on my Instagram. She's here with me now. And I had so many requests to have her on

0:50.0

the series to hear from her perspective how it was having me go through what I went through with

0:56.2

anxiety and how a parent might be better able to support their child through anxiety or their

1:01.5

teenager or their 20-something-year-old or their 30-something-year-old. It never, it doesn't matter what age

1:05.3

you are when you're when you're a parent to a child. You always have that relationship.

1:09.8

And especially I think it's important to talk about

1:12.4

how people can broach the subject of anxiety with parents who maybe aren't as receptive to the subject

1:18.5

or who maybe are a bit uncomfortable with it. So I asked my mom all these questions and she's an

1:23.2

absolute hero and I really wouldn't be here without her and I can't thank her enough. I'll never

1:27.9

be able to thank her enough. There's not enough boxes of roses in the world to say thank you enough

1:33.1

times to my beautiful mammy but I'm so happy that she was able to be here not just for all the nappy

1:39.5

changes that she's done in the week that she's been here with my new baby but to be able to

1:43.0

have this conversation with me and be so honest and open. So I hope you enjoy and hope you get something

1:48.2

out of it. And I hope that if you are having a hard time trying to explain your anxiety to your

1:53.1

parents that you can share this episode with them and they might be able to get something from

it. Thank you so much and enjoy. So I asked on Instagram if anyone had any

guests that they'd like to have, hear from on owning it, the anxiety podcast. And one of the
